Abstract

Die Lehrmethode DesignBuild steht für die synergetische Verknüpfung von entworfener Theorie und gebauter Praxis. Sie beschreibt die Ausarbeitung einer Idee über die Ausführungsplanung bis hin zur realen Umsetzung im Maßstab 1:1. Im Rahmen der praxisnahen Architekturausbildung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entstand 2022/23 für die südthüringische Gemeinde Rippershausen eine 42 Meter lange hölzerne Kolonnade als neuer Dorfmittelpunkt mit einem breiten Nutzungsspektrum. Das gebaute Resultat zeigt eindrucksvoll die kooperative Zusammenarbeit zwischen Studierenden, ihren Lehrenden und Akteur*innen des ländlichen Raums. Dieses Handbuch reflektiert DesignBuild als Methode und illustriert den Prozess vom ersten Entwurf über die Vorfabrikation bis zur tatsächlichen Errichtung. The DesignBuild teaching method represents a synergetic fusion of design theory and practical construction. It encompasses the evolution of an idea from development through to implementation at a 1:1 scale. As part of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's practice-focused architecture teaching, a 42-metre wooden colonnade offering a spectrum of uses was created as a new village focal point for the community of Rippershausen in South Thuringia. The built result is an impressive demonstration of the cooperation between students, lecturers, and various actors from within the municipality. This handbook describes the DesignBuild method and illustrates the process from the very first design through to prefabrication and the final realization of the project.
